Literacy in Action

Our district is committed to building a strong culture of literacy both in our schools and throughout the community. From early childhood to high school, we’ve launched a variety of creative and impactful initiatives to inspire a love of reading at every age.
High school students are featured on custom reading posters displayed across campuses: each with a QR code linking to a video of the student reading their chosen book on our Read Lamar YouTube channel. At the earliest levels, we've hosted literacy training sessions for local daycare workers to support emerging readers from the start.
In our primary, elementary, and middle schools, we’ve installed book vending machines: a fun, engaging way for students to access new books. Instead of money, students earn special tokens from school staff, reinforcing positive behavior and celebrating literacy.
Events like "Trick or Read" provide creative opportunities to distribute free books to students and families, promoting reading in festive, memorable ways.
These are just a few of the many ways we’re working to strengthen literacy across Lamar County: one book, one reader, and one initiative at a time.
