Lamar County Primary School had the honor of welcoming Super Bowl LI Champion and former Georgia Bulldogs standout wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell to campus this week. His visit marked a special moment in celebration of Lamar County School System being named a 2025 Georgia Reads Community Award winner, one of only ten communities recognized statewide for outstanding literacy partnerships and progress.
Mitchell, now a children’s author and literacy advocate, is also the CEO and founder of the Share the Magic Foundation and serves as the official Georgia Reads Coach. During his visit, he led a Reading Rally with our primary school students, sharing his powerful personal story of overcoming reading struggles as a young student, even as he rose to athletic stardom.
In a heartfelt and engaging session, Mitchell encouraged students to embrace reading and reminded them that literacy is a tool for lifelong success. He then read aloud from his book, "Hey, Georgia," captivating students with a message of confidence, resilience, and the joy of reading.
This celebration was part of the broader Georgia Reads movement, which seeks to unify efforts across the state to improve literacy outcomes. Lamar County’s selection as a Community Award winner reflects our district’s continued commitment to literacy and its impact on student success.
We are incredibly grateful to Malcolm Mitchell for taking the time to inspire our students and remind us all that the ability to read can change lives and that every child is capable of greatness.
