Information Technology Department
The Information Technology Department consists of four full-time employees responsible for maintaining and supporting the school network infrastructure and approximately 7,700 devices, including Chromebooks, desktops, laptops, tablets, and interactive panels. These efforts play a critical role in enhancing teaching and learning opportunities for 2,800 students and over 400 staff members across the district.
The district utilizes Google G Suite for Education, providing staff and students with cloud-based tools such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Classroom. This platform ensures seamless collaboration and document accessibility from any internet-connected device, supporting both in-person and remote learning environments.
In addition to supporting instructional technology, the department maintains and manages several essential administrative and operational applications, including Infinite Campus (student information system), Traversa (transportation management), Harris Solutions (financial and HR systems), School Dude (maintenance and facility requests), Mosaic (cafeteria and nutrition services), and EKOS (special education management), along with other district-specific platforms.
The IT department also plays a vital role in state and federal data reporting and compliance. This includes managing complex data collection and submission processes required by the Georgia Department of Education, such as Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) counts, Student Record (SDR), Pre-ID for standardized testing, End of Pathway Assessments, Student Enrollment data, and CCRPI (College and Career Ready Performance Index) reporting. Ensuring data accuracy and timely submission is critical to district funding and accountability.
Demonstrating a high level of technical proficiency and efficiency, Lamar County Schools' IT department completes 97% of maintenance and repair work internally, reducing reliance on external contractors and ensuring quick turnaround times for technology issues. This hands-on approach allows for better control over resources, faster issue resolution, and cost savings for the district.
Looking ahead, the department continues to evaluate and implement emerging technologies to support instructional innovation, increase operational efficiency, and maintain a secure and reliable digital learning environment for all stakeholders.
