School Social Worker

The school social worker plays a critical role in supporting students' academic success and overall well-being by addressing barriers that may impact learning. She provides direct support to students and families, coordinates with community agencies, and helps ensure that all students have access to the resources and services they need to thrive.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing attendance protocols and leading the district’s attendance intervention task force

  • Managing mandated reporting and collaborating with child protective services

  • Supporting homeless, foster, and migrant students under federal program guidelines

  • Coordinating crisis response and intervention for mental health or safety-related incidents

  • Connecting families with resources for food, housing, medical, dental, and vision care

  • Working with the juvenile justice system to address truancy and other student-related matters

  • Facilitating training for school staff on mandated reporting, mental health protocols, and attendance

  • Collaborating on community support programs, such as food distribution and holiday assistance

  • Making referrals for counseling and mental health services, including in-school supports

  • Partnering with public health agencies for immunization and health-related services

  • Participating in multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings to support students with complex needs

Through these efforts, the school social worker serves as a vital link between home, school, and the community: ensuring that every student has the support they need to learn and grow in a safe, healthy environment.
