Youth Apprentiship Program

YAPYouth Apprenticeship prepares high school students for the world of work through a combination of academic and workplace learning. The program was initiated in Georgia to insure a well-educated and highly skilled workforce.

During the 11th and 12th grades, apprenticeship students continue to take academic and technical courses that lay a foundation for their career. They also begin paid, on-the-job training through a structured work place learning program.

Employers aid the apprentice's education by assigning a mentor to the student to teach the skills necessary to master competency standards developed by industry and labor. The employers also assess the apprentice's performance, create relevant curriculum and develop occupational skill standards specific to business and industry. LCYAP

Youth Apprenticeship also provides a direct link to higher education, with students attending (for at least two years) a technical institute or college after the high school component of the apprenticeship.

For more information on the Youth Apprenticeship Program, please contact Donna Andrews at Lamar County Comprehensive High School.
